    Ami,

You "hit the nail on the head" with your comments about paddling magazines and their depiction of the sport. Most of the leading magazines have taken a shot at trying to give a "female perspective", but none that I've read have come close yet. Oh, there have been some good articles and even an occasional column, but nothing on a sustained basis. They just don't seem to get it. Most everything they do seems to be completely slanted in one direction or another IMHO. They just can't seem to get comfortable with presenting things in an unbiased and realistic manner.

Danno - thank you for your comment. What is fascinating is that there are many many "female perspectives" around kayaking that are probably similar to others who are in it for the physical fitness, freedom, learning something new, and getting away from the pressures of the world...

I went to the Canoe&Kayak website once, and, while I enjoy looking at women in bathing suits, I thought having a section called "Babes" was just bit too juvenile, too hetero, and, to be honest, too icky.

There are lots of bloggers and enthusiasts out there who I'm starting to pay a lot more attention to - like Paul Stivers http://paulstivers.com/.
